FCT Police Commissioner Warns Traffic Officers Against Unprofessional Conduct, Launches “Operation Keep Traffic Moving”

The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Ajao Adewale, psc, mnips, has issued a stern warning to traffic officers under his command, urging strict professionalism and renewed dedication to service. This came during a lecture held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Command Headquarters for all Divisional Traffic Officers, Motor Traffic Police (MOTOPOL), and related units.

In a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, ANIPR, the CP emphasized the theme “Humanity First”, stressing the vital role of traffic officers as the public’s first point of contact with the police. He described their performance as currently below standard and called for immediate improvement.

CP Adewale noted that traffic conditions serve as a key indicator of a city’s orderliness and urged officers to reflect discipline, professionalism, and public service at all times. He warned against unethical practices that damage the Force’s image, including extortion, poor turnout, and lateness.

Following personal inspection of traffic flow during peak hours, the CP identified 30 key traffic hotspots across the FCT such as Wuse, Area 1 Roundabout, Kubwa, AYA, Apo, and Jikwoyi and directed that officers be consistently visible at these locations to ensure smooth traffic flow.

He specifically cautioned against dangerous and unprofessional behaviors such as jumping into vehicles or attempting to take control of a driver’s steering wheel, labeling such acts as unacceptable and contrary to police ethics.

To reinforce his directives, CP Adewale launched Operation “Keep Traffic Moving”, establishing a surveillance team to monitor traffic officers and ensure compliance. Any officer found flouting these directives will face disciplinary action, he warned.

The CP also called on FCT residents to obey traffic rules, respect officers on duty, and refrain from offering bribes, noting that such acts are illegal and undermine law enforcement.

He assured the public of continued police presence at major intersections and encouraged citizens to report suspicious activity through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913, 08061581938.
