Prayer and Support for Nigerian Armed Forces and Other Security Agencies (PSNAFSA) has mourned the death of four policemen and seven other persons killed in an attack on Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The organisation, in a statement signed by its Convener, Ambassador Mary Abayomi-Fatile, described the incident as a tragic loss to the Nigeria Police Force, the affected families and the nation.
PSNAFSA commiserated with the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Nigeria Police Force, as well as the families, colleagues and loved ones of the four officers who died in the line of duty.
It also extended its condolences to the families of the seven other victims who lost their lives during the attack.
The organisation said it was deeply saddened by reports that several persons sustained injuries while others remained unaccounted for following the attack, which occurred on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
According to PSNAFSA, the incident underscored the growing security challenges confronting communities in vulnerable parts of the country and the risks routinely faced by security personnel.
It commended the police and other security operatives who responded to the attack, noting that the personnel remained resolute in defending the community despite the intensity of the confrontation.
The organisation said personnel of the Police Mobile Force, tactical teams and conventional police units engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle that lasted for about seven hours.
The security operatives, it added, eventually repelled the attackers and forced them to withdraw into the surrounding forest in the early hours of Friday, September 11.
PSNAFSA paid tribute to the four policemen who made the ultimate sacrifice, describing their deaths as a painful reminder of the commitment and courage required of security personnel in the discharge of their duties.
It said the loss of the officers was not only a setback for the Nigeria Police Force but also a devastating blow to their families, colleagues and the wider nation.
The organisation called for sustained and improved support for security personnel deployed to vulnerable communities, particularly through better intelligence, operational equipment, logistics, communication systems and welfare packages.
PSNAFSA also urged the relevant authorities to intensify efforts to locate persons still unaccounted for, provide immediate medical attention to the injured and ensure that those responsible for the attack are identified and brought to justice.
It further called for stronger intelligence gathering and early warning mechanisms to enable security agencies to detect emerging threats and respond before attacks escalate.
The organisation appealed to residents of vulnerable communities to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information capable of preventing attacks, facilitating rescue operations and aiding the arrest of criminal elements.
PSNAFSA said supporting personnel of the Armed Forces, Police and other security agencies was a collective responsibility, urging Nigerians not to become insensitive to the sacrifices of officers who die protecting lives and property.
It prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased, comfort for their families and colleagues, and speedy recovery for those injured.
PSNAFSA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies while promoting public confidence and constructive partnerships between security personnel and the communities they serve.
