CRAN Mourns Dr. Solomon Arase, A Distinguished Officer, Reformer, And Ally Of The Media

The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the passing of former Inspector-General of Police and immediate past Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase.

Dr. Arase was a man of many parts, a consummate police officer renowned for his professionalism, a visionary reformer, and a steadfast friend to journalists, especially those in the crime reporting community.

In a statement signed by CRAN President, Olalekan Olabulo, the association recalled a long-standing and cordial relationship with Dr. Arase, which dated back to his tenure as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba. Even as he rose to the highest levels of policing, first as Inspector-General of Police and later as Chairman of the Police Service Commission, he maintained close ties with CRAN.

Dr. Arase regularly participated in CRAN’s annual lectures and awards, either by personal attendance or through trusted representatives. His humility, consistency, and respect for the media earned him the admiration and loyalty of the association.

To CRAN, he was more than a senior police officer, he was a mentor who deeply understood the vital role of the media in promoting accountability and strengthening national development. He consistently encouraged professionalism among journalists and stood as a bridge between law enforcement and the press.

His sudden passing is a painful loss. Nigeria has lost one of its most distinguished policing minds, and CRAN has lost a genuine ally and friend.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, the Nigeria Police Force, the Police Service Commission, and the entire nation. May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may those he left behind find strength and comfort.

Adieu to a fine officer and gentleman.
