
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of its immediate past Chairman, Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase, CFR, retired Inspector General of Police, describing his death as a profound loss to the Commission and the nation at large.
In a statement signed by the Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the Commission hailed Dr. Arase as a distinguished officer, visionary leader, and reformer whose exceptional service to Nigeria left an enduring legacy. During his tenure as Chairman, he brought transformative leadership to the Commission, marked by wisdom, professionalism, and institutional growth. One of his notable achievements was the successful relocation of the Commission to its permanent Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
“Dr. Arase lived a life of integrity, courage, and unwavering commitment to national service. His contributions to law enforcement and public administration will continue to inspire current and future generations,” the statement noted.
The Board, Management, and Staff of the Commission extended their heartfelt condolences to his family, the Nigeria Police Force, and the entire nation, praying for strength for his loved ones and for the peaceful repose of his soul.
As part of activities to honour his memory, the Commission, on Monday, September 1st, 2025, paid a condolence visit to the residence of the late Dr. Arase in Abuja. The delegation was led by Hon. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (Rtd), Commissioner representing the Judiciary at the PSC, who stood in for the current Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd), mni. Other members of the delegation included DIG Taiwo Lakanu (Rtd), fdc, Commissioner representing the Police; Alhaji Mohammed Abdulfatah, Commissioner representing the Organized Private Sector; along with Directors and staff of the Commission.
The delegation offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Dr. Arase’s soul and conveyed the Commission’s sympathies to the bereaved family.
In further tribute, the Commission has opened a condolence register at its Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, to allow staff and members of the public to pay their respects and share messages of sympathy.
