The Nigerian Army has moved to recalibrate its operational architecture with the rollout of a standardized evaluation framework designed to deepen efficiency, accountability and combat readiness across its formations.
At a sensitisation seminar held on Tuesday in Abuja, the Army Headquarters Department of Standards and Evaluation brought together senior officers and key stakeholders to align understanding on structured performance assessment and compliance benchmarks.
The forum, which took place at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre and Suites, Asokoro, marks a defining institutional shift toward measurable performance and data driven decision making within the service.
Declaring the seminar open, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, represented by the Military Secretary, Major General Everest Okoro, described the initiative as a strategic milestone in the Army’s transformation agenda.
He said the engagement was the first major outing of the Department of Standards and Evaluation since its establishment, underscoring a renewed commitment to professional excellence and institutional discipline.
According to him, the department serves as the Army’s internal quality assurance mechanism, responsible for enforcing compliance with operational standards and ensuring uniformity in performance evaluation across commands.
He explained that the framework would drive periodic combat readiness checks, operational reviews and structured assessments aimed at identifying strengths while addressing systemic gaps.
The Army leadership believes that embedding such mechanisms will not only improve operational outcomes but also reinforce transparency and accountability in mission execution.
In his welcome remarks, the Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation, Major General Bobby Ugiagbe, said the seminar was convened to institutionalise best practices and promote consistency in the application of standards.
He noted that a disciplined evaluation culture would strengthen professionalism, enhance coordination and ultimately position the Nigerian Army to meet evolving security demands with precision and effectiveness.
The initiative signals a broader push by the Army to align with global best practices, placing emphasis on continuous improvement, operational integrity and a results driven command structure.
