The General Officer Commanding 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Babalola, has assured of intensified military support to boost road safety and security operations across Lagos and Ogun States.
The assurance came during a high level engagement with the Zonal Commanding Officer of Federal Road Safety Corps Zone 2, Assistant Corps Marshal Mathew Olonisaye, who paid a courtesy visit to the Division’s headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Babalola described the visit as a strategic step towards deepening inter agency collaboration, stressing that safeguarding lives and property on Nigerian roads requires a unified approach among security and safety institutions.
He aligned the engagement with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, noting that strategic cooperation remains central to tackling evolving security challenges, particularly along critical transport corridors in Lagos and Ogun.
The GOC maintained that no single agency can effectively address the complexities of road safety and security alone, underscoring the need for synergy between the military, police, FRSC, immigration and other relevant bodies.
He commended the FRSC Zone 2 leadership and personnel for their consistency and professionalism in traffic management and accident prevention across the two states.
Babalola further assured that the Division would continue to provide maximum operational support to the Corps, reinforcing its mandate to ensure safer highways and improved public confidence in road travel.
He also expressed confidence in the capacity of the Zonal Commanding Officer to deliver impactful leadership, wishing him a successful tenure in office.
Earlier, Olonisaye said his visit was aimed at strengthening institutional ties, familiarising himself with the Division’s leadership structure and consolidating existing collaboration frameworks.
He acknowledged the Nigerian Army’s longstanding support, noting that FRSC personnel have benefited from military training programmes, which have enhanced operational efficiency and discipline.
The FRSC commander called for sustained joint operations, coordinated training exercises and improved intelligence sharing, describing them as critical tools for achieving safer and more secure road networks across Lagos and Ogun States.
