In a ceremony marked by precision and institutional pride, the Ogun State Police Command on Monday decorated 541 newly promoted officers with the prestigious rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), in what observers described as one of the largest coordinated promotion exercises in recent years.
Presiding over the seamless exercise was the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, who described the elevation as a celebration of merit, discipline and unwavering commitment to duty within the Force.
The promotion ceremony, according to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, was held simultaneously at the Command Headquarters, Area Commands, Divisions and other formations across the state, underscoring meticulous planning and strategic coordination.
The large-scale decoration reflected not only administrative efficiency but also the institutional resolve of the Nigeria Police Force to reward competence and reinforce professionalism within its ranks.
For the beneficiaries, the new rank signals more than a change in insignia. It represents a renewed covenant of leadership, accountability and higher operational expectations in a state considered strategic to Nigeria’s security architecture.
The Command noted that the elevation of the officers would significantly strengthen its leadership structure, deepen supervisory capacity and enhance operational effectiveness across commands and divisions.
Ogunlowo charged the newly promoted ASPs to see their advancement as both recognition and responsibility, urging them to uphold stricter standards of discipline, integrity and public trust in the discharge of their duties.
He further emphasised the need to intensify intelligence-led policing, stressing that proactive security strategies remain critical to sustaining peace and stability across Ogun State.
The Commissioner also extended appreciation to the families of the promoted officers, acknowledging their sacrifices and steadfast support, which he said remain indispensable to the success of policing operations.
As the newly decorated officers donned their fresh insignia, the ceremony stood as both a reward for past excellence and a clarion call for heightened service, a reaffirmation that within the Force, advancement comes with an enduring demand for honour, courage and accountability.
