Deputy Inspector General of Police (Rtd), Abiodun Sylvester Alabi, fdc, has expressed profound grief over the death of former Inspector General of Police and Chairman of the Police Service Commission, IGP Solomon Arase, fdc, mni.
In a heartfelt statement released on Sunday, DIG Alabi described the late Arase as “a good man, a true patriot, and an exceptional mentor,” adding that his passing represents a monumental loss to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation as a whole.
“IGP Arase was more than a towering figure in the annals of Nigerian policing—he was a leader who led by example, a reformer who believed in a better Force, and a mentor who inspired many of us who had the privilege to serve under and alongside him,” Alabi said.
He commended Arase’s tenure as Inspector General, noting his visionary leadership and steadfast commitment to professionalism, integrity, and institutional reform. According to him, Arase’s pioneering work in community policing and systemic transformation continues to serve as a benchmark for modern policing in Nigeria.
“Even in retirement, his dedication did not waver. As Chairman of the Police Service Commission, he remained focused on strengthening the foundations of effective and accountable policing,” DIG Alabi added.
He extended his deepest condolences to the Arase family, the Nigeria Police Force, and the entire nation, while praying for the peaceful repose of the former IGP’s soul.
“May his legacy endure and continue to inspire future generations of officers committed to justice, service, and national progress,” the statement concluded.
IGP Solomon Arase, who served as Nigeria’s 18th Inspector General of Police, passed away on August 31, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy marked by reform, integrity, and unwavering service to the nation.
