Anambra Police Confirm Release of Ezeokafor, Reverend Sister, Launch Manhunt

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the release and safe return of Chief Joseph Ezeokafor and a reverend sister who were abducted by armed criminals at Ifite Awka.

The command said the two victims regained their freedom on Saturday, August 15, 2026, following days in captivity.

The confirmation was contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, on behalf of the command.

According to the statement, the police have commenced efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the victims’ release and gather information relevant to the ongoing investigation.

The command said the information being obtained would assist security agencies in identifying and apprehending the perpetrators of the abduction.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the safe return of the victims and directed intensified intelligence led operations across the area.

Ama also ordered a manhunt for the criminals responsible for the abduction, stressing the need to bring those behind the incident to justice.

The operation involves the police, Department of State Services, military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Agunechemba security operatives and other relevant security agencies.

The command said the multi agency operation would continue as security personnel work to identify the perpetrators and prevent further kidnappings in the state.

The police appreciated members of the public for their support and cooperation, urging residents to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information that could assist in the arrest of the suspects.
