Troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, have foiled an attack by suspected armed herders on Azege Village in Tombo Council Ward of Logo Local Government Area, Benue State.

The troops responded to a distress call on August 10, 2026, reporting an attack on the community. They swiftly mobilised to the area to prevent further violence and protect residents.

On arrival, the troops encountered the suspected attackers, leading to an exchange of gunfire. The security forces brought superior firepower to bear, forcing the assailants to retreat in disarray.

The troops pursued the fleeing attackers and subsequently discovered one suspected armed herder who had been neutralised during the encounter.

A search of the area led to the recovery of an AK 47 rifle, a magazine containing 16 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and a Nokia mobile phone.

The recovered weapons and other items have been secured by the security forces, while the remains of the deceased suspect were evacuated by the police.

The operation also triggered efforts to track the fleeing members of the group, with security personnel continuing to work to apprehend them and prevent further attacks in the area.

The Joint Task Force commended the troops for their tactical resilience and effective response to the security threat, while also acknowledging the Nigeria Police Force for its cooperation during the operation.

The task force said the operation underscored the importance of sustained collaboration among security agencies in responding to threats against communities in Benue State.

Residents were urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state.
