…Disu rallies top brass for defining leadership retreat
The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday declared open a high level strategic retreat for senior officers, setting the tone for a renewed push to transform the Nigeria Police Force.
The two day Executive Leadership Retreat, bringing together Deputy Inspectors General and Assistant Inspectors General, is holding in Abuja as part of a broader reform agenda.
Convened by the Police Reform Secretariat in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, the gathering is designed to sharpen leadership focus and institutional performance.
The session marks a significant moment in ongoing efforts to reposition the Force as a modern, accountable and service driven institution.
Addressing participants, Disu described the retreat as central to his reform vision, stressing that leadership must be anchored on vision, discipline and public trust.
He charged the senior officers to translate policy into measurable outcomes, insisting that reform must be evident in improved operational efficiency and respect for human rights.
Earlier, the Head of the Police Reform Secretariat, Professor Olu Ogunsakin, outlined milestones achieved under the Supporting Police Accountability and Transformation programme.
He disclosed that key reforms awaiting implementation include a comprehensive overhaul of the police recruit curriculum, the first of its kind in decades, alongside a new regulatory framework for modern policing.
According to him, the revised Nigeria Police Regulations 2025 introduce a rights based approach aimed at aligning operations with global best practices.
The retreat also features technical sessions on evidence based budgeting, community policing strategies and digital transformation initiatives.
These engagements, officials say, are targeted at strengthening transparency, enhancing service delivery and deepening citizen confidence in policing.
As deliberations continue, the Force leadership reiterated its commitment to sustained reform, while acknowledging the support of international partners in advancing Nigeria’s policing architecture.
