“Community Policing Drive Deepens as Government, Monarchs, Stakeholders Rally Behind Expansion”

The Ogun State Police Command has expanded its operational footprint with the commissioning of a new Area Command, two Divisional Headquarters, a Police Post and additional operational assets, in a sweeping move to fortify grassroots policing and sharpen rapid response across the state.
The development, described as a strategic consolidation of security architecture, signals a renewed push to entrench intelligence-led and community-driven policing in both urban and rural corridors.
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the expansion was credited to sustained collaboration between government, traditional institutions, corporate bodies and local communities, a coalition that has increasingly defined Ogun’s security model.
At Ijebu Igbo, Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, formally commissioned the newly established Ijebu Igbo Area Command and its Divisional Headquarters, describing the project as a bold investment in public safety and social stability.
The ceremony drew an array of dignitaries, including the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Olatokunbo Joseph Talabi, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, traditional rulers and community leaders, all of whom underscored the urgency of strengthening security structures amid evolving threats.
Special commendation went to the Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo, Oba Lawrence Jayeoba Adebajo, for galvanising grassroots support, culminating in the donation of a patrol van to enhance operational mobility.
The newly created Area Command now oversees five divisions: Ijebu Igbo, Ago Iwoye, Awa Ijebu, Oru Ijebu and Atan Ijebu, a configuration expected to boost coordination, intelligence-sharing and police visibility across the axis.
Earlier, CP Ogunlowo had commissioned the Afon Divisional Headquarters under the Imeko Area Command, in the presence of the Onimeko of Imeko, Oba Benjamin Olunite Oyeditan, and the Obaladi of Afon Land, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Adewaare Akande, with another patrol vehicle handed over to reinforce field operations.
In a related development, the Commissioner also inaugurated the Japara Police Post, extending security coverage to previously underserved communities and reinforcing rapid response capacity, intelligence gathering and public trust.
The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), led by State Chairman Venerable Samson Popoola, featured prominently at the ceremonies, reflecting a deliberate synergy between the police and civil stakeholders.
Expressing appreciation to the Ogun State Government and its partners, CP Ogunlowo charged officers to uphold professionalism and ensure the judicious deployment of the new facilities and assets, reaffirming the Command’s resolve to safeguard lives and property through proactive, intelligence-driven policing.
