Command Day Secondary School (CDSS) Ikeja has stamped its authority on the tracks and fields, emerging overall winner of the 2026 81 Division Inter-Command Secondary Schools Sports Competition, a fiercely contested three-day event that kept Lagos buzzing with youthful energy and military precision.
The championship, held from February 10 to 12 at the General Tukur Yusuf Buratai Sports Complex, brought together the best of discipline, endurance and teamwork from Command secondary schools under the 81 Division Nigerian Army.
In a competition that tested speed, strength and strategy, CDSS Ikeja rose above its peers, posting consistent performances across multiple sporting events to clinch the coveted top prize and the admiration of spectators and officials alike.
A press release signed by Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, described the victory as a product of “exceptional preparation, resilience and collective spirit,” noting that five Command schools locked horns in what he called a celebration of sportsmanship.
Representing the General Officer Commanding, Major General Adebayo Babalola, the Commander 9 Brigade, Brigadier General Ayokunle Owolabi, charged the students to see the competition beyond medals, urging them to carry lessons of perseverance, unity and fair play into their future pursuits.
He commended the participants for displaying courage and camaraderie, stressing that the bonds forged on the field could become lifelong networks of leadership and service to the nation.
Earlier, the Director, 81 Division Education Services, Colonel Olatoke Olubo, applauded the students for their spirited participation, noting that the annual sports fiesta continues to mould discipline, resilience and emerging leadership among young Nigerians.
At the close of competition, CDSS Ikeja stood tall as overall champions, followed by Command Secondary School Ojo in second place, CDSS Oshodi in third, Command Secondary School Lagos in fourth, and CDSS Bonny Cantonment finishing fifth.
The event attracted a galaxy of senior military officers, educators and sports enthusiasts, all of whom hailed the competition as a vital platform for talent discovery and character building within the Command school system.
As the curtains fell, one message rang clear from the arenas of Lagos: with grit, discipline and teamwork, CDSS Ikeja has not only won a trophy, but also set a standard for excellence in inter-command school sports.
