The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) has formally welcomed Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Olatunji Disu, as the new head of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The association described his deployment as a calculated move by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to strengthen the nation’s criminal investigation framework with tested and tactical leadership.
In a statement signed by its President, Mr. Olalekan Olabulo, CRAN noted that AIG Disu brings to Alagbon nearly three decades of frontline policing experience across some of the most sensitive operational theatres in the country.
His career trajectory spans command roles in the Rapid Response Squad, the Intelligence Response Team, and as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, where he confronted armed robbery, violent crime and complex security threats.
CRAN said these high-risk postings positioned AIG Disu at the heart of intelligence-led operations, counter-insurgency efforts and coordinated law enforcement responses.
The association expressed confidence that this depth of experience would translate into improved forensic capacity, tighter case management processes and stronger inter-agency collaboration at the FCID Annex.
It added that AIG Disu’s leadership is expected to consolidate existing gains while introducing focused innovations in digital evidence handling, forensic analysis and investigative turnaround time.
CRAN also commended the Inspector General of Police for the strategic posting, noting that it comes at a critical moment when criminal networks are becoming more adaptive and technologically driven.
The association recalled AIG Disu’s public commitment to integrity, transparency and professionalism, expressing optimism that these values would further entrench public confidence in the FCID’s operations.
According to CRAN, adherence to due process and the rule of law remains essential to restoring trust between law enforcement institutions and the public they serve.
The association urged sustained collaboration among security agencies, the judiciary, civil society and citizens as a necessary condition for dismantling criminal syndicates and accelerating justice delivery.
As AIG Disu assumes command, CRAN pledged constructive engagement with the FCID Annex, assuring its support for initiatives that promote investigative excellence, accountability and intelligence-driven policing in Lagos and across the country.
