The Eastern Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy has welcomed a new Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Rear Admiral Chiedozie Donald Okehie, following an official handover ceremony held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, in Calabar, Cross River State.
Rear Admiral Okehie took over from Rear Admiral Kennedy Chukwuemeka Ezete, who concluded his tenure as the 42nd FOC of the Command. The transition marks a new chapter in the Command’s pursuit of maritime security and operational excellence in Nigeria’s eastern waters.
In his valedictory remarks, Rear Admiral Ezete expressed gratitude to God and the naval community for their unwavering support during his tenure. He commended officers and ratings of the Command for their professionalism and teamwork, urging them to extend the same cooperation to his successor.
“It has been a privilege to lead such a dedicated team. Together, we sustained operational effectiveness and upheld the proud traditions of the Nigerian Navy,” Rear Admiral Ezete stated, wishing Rear Admiral Okehie a successful and impactful tenure.
Assuming command, Rear Admiral Okehie praised his predecessor’s leadership and achievements, pledging to build on the existing foundation to further enhance the Command’s strategic role in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime domain.
He outlined four strategic pillars that will guide his administration:
1. Professionalism – Upholding the highest standards of discipline and competence.
2. Operational Readiness – Ensuring the Command remains mission-ready at all times.
3. Welfare of Personnel – Prioritizing the well-being and motivation of officers and ratings.
4. Synergy and Collaboration – Strengthening partnerships with sister services and maritime stakeholders.
Rear Admiral Okehie emphasized that the Eastern Naval Command remains pivotal to Nigeria’s maritime security architecture, given its responsibility for critical sea lines of communication, oil and gas infrastructure, and regional stability in the Gulf of Guinea.
The ceremony featured the signing of handover notes and the symbolic exchange of the Command Flag, representing the smooth transfer of authority. Senior officers, ratings, and civilian staff were in attendance, and the event concluded with a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
