IGP’s Delegation Visits Anambra Ahead of Governorship Election
The Anambra State Police Command on Monday, November 3, 2025, received the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, who paid an official visit to the state in preparation for the forthcoming Anambra Governorship Election 2025.
The visit coincided with the signing of the Peace Accord by flag bearers of political parties contesting the election, underscoring the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to a peaceful and credible electoral process.
Representing the Inspector-General were DIG Benjamin Okolo, fdc, Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Department, and DIG Yakubu Kwazhi, mni, Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations.
They were warmly received by CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, alongside the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 13 Ukpo-Dunukofia, AIG Abayomi Oladipo Peter, members of the Command Management Team, and senior officers.
Addressing officers and men of the Command, the Inspector-General lauded CP Orutugu’s proactive security leadership, strong inter-agency collaboration, and continuous stakeholder engagement across the state.
He charged police personnel to remain disciplined, apolitical, and vigilant, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force is fully prepared to safeguard lives and ensure the success of the Anambra Governorship Election.
“The Force remains committed to upholding peace, law, and order before, during, and after the polls,” the IGP emphasized.
A key highlight of the event was the decoration ceremony of Assistant Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Ogbuanya, who was recently promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
The ceremony, conducted by DIG Benjamin Okolo and AIG Abayomi Oladipo Peter, celebrated DCP Ogbuanya’s exceptional service, professionalism, and dedication to duty.
In his congratulatory message, the IGP commended the newly promoted officer, urging him to view the new rank as a call to higher service and to continue exemplifying the core values of integrity, diligence, and excellence that define the Nigeria Police Force.
In separate remarks, AIG Abayomi Oladipo Peter and CP Ikioye Orutugu stated that the IGP’s visit would further boost the morale of officers and strengthen their operational readiness for improved security delivery throughout the election period.
They reaffirmed the Command’s determination to work collaboratively with sister agencies and community stakeholders to maintain peace, order, and public confidence in Anambra State.
In his vote of thanks, DCP Emmanuel Ogbuanya expressed deep appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Force leadership for the recognition and promotion. He pledged unwavering dedication to the mission and vision of the Nigeria Police Force, promising to justify the confidence reposed in him.
Also in attendance were CP Abayomi Shogunle, the Commissioner of Police overseeing the Anambra Governorship Election, senior officers of the Command, and other distinguished guests.
