
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, on Monday, November 3, 2025, witnessed the official signing of a Peace Accord by governorship candidates of various political parties contesting in the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship Election.
The high-profile event, held at the International Conference Centre, Awka, was organized under the auspices of the National Peace Committee (NPC) and attended by key stakeholders, including security chiefs, representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), civil society groups, traditional rulers, and the media.
In his remarks, IGP Egbetokun emphasized the importance of peaceful conduct, political tolerance, and respect for democratic values. He urged candidates and their supporters to demonstrate true commitment to peace before, during, and after the November 8 election.
“The Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains fully prepared to ensure adequate protection of lives, property, and the integrity of the electoral process. We will maintain strict neutrality and professionalism throughout,” the IGP assured.
The Police Chief also commended the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, for his proactive security strategies and continuous engagement with communities across the state to promote peaceful participation.
In a show of unity, candidates representing different political parties pledged to uphold the tenets of non-violence, fairness, and respect for the outcome of the polls. They also called on their supporters to eschew acts capable of inciting unrest or undermining the democratic process.
The Peace Accord signing is widely seen as a crucial milestone toward ensuring a credible, inclusive, and violence-free election in Anambra State. It underscores the collective resolve of political actors and security stakeholders to safeguard peace and strengthen democracy in the state.
