The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, has intensified his statewide security advocacy and community engagement tour ahead of the November 8, 2025 Anambra Governorship Election, with strategic visits to the Ihiala Area Command and Oraifite Division.
The visits, according to a statement signed by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, were part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to strengthen stakeholder collaboration, deepen public confidence, and promote election patriotism and peaceful participation across the state.
During the engagements, CP Orutugu met with key community leaders, including the President General of Ihiala Community, the Commander of Agunechemba Vigilante Group, the Youth Chairman, and a representative of the Local Government Chairman, as well as officers and men of the Police Command within the area.
In Ihiala, the Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the improved security architecture, commending residents for their resilience, civic responsibility, and continued cooperation with security agencies. He noted that the people of Ihiala and Oraifite have demonstrated strong community spirit by rejecting attempts by criminal elements to undermine peace or influence political processes.

While addressing stakeholders in Oraifite, CP Orutugu acknowledged the support and synergy of other security agencies working with the Police in maintaining peace and order. He, however, clarified that local vigilante groups are not part of election security operations, emphasizing that election security will strictly remain under the coordination of the Nigeria Police Force.
Reaffirming the Command’s readiness for the upcoming election, CP Orutugu assured residents that the Police are fully committed to ensuring a peaceful, credible, and secure electoral process. He urged citizens to embrace patriotism during the election period by resisting intimidation, rejecting fear-based narratives, and exercising their democratic rights freely.
While addressing police officers and men under the Area Commands, the Commissioner charged them to uphold discipline, professionalism, courtesy, and human rights standards. He reminded them that modern policing must be people-centered and intelligence-driven, anchored on service and respect for human dignity.
CP Orutugu also reiterated that the Joint Security Framework in Anambra remains operational and will be reinforced across all communities to prevent infiltration by criminal groups and sustain peace before, during, and after the election.
The Command, while calling on Ndi Anambra to remain law-abiding and vigilant, urged residents to share credible intelligence that could aid ongoing operations.
Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines — 112 or 07039194332 — for a prompt response.
