In a renewed effort to ensure peace and security ahead of the forthcoming Anambra governorship election, the Anambra State Police Command has arrested a notorious suspected cultist and political thug, identified as Onyeaka Odogwu, popularly known as “Red Angel”, aged 29.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed in a statement that operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS), Enugu-Ukwu, carried out the intelligence-led operation that led to the suspect’s arrest on 24th October 2025 around 11:30 a.m.
During the operation, the police recovered two pump-action guns, two English-made double-barrel guns, three live cartridges, cult regalia and insignia, and caps associated with the Vikings Confraternity.
Ikenga further disclosed that the suspect confessed to being a member of the Vikings cult group and to participating in political thuggery. Acting on his confession, SPACS operatives on 26th October 2025 followed him to the group’s armoury in Omor, where the firearms and other incriminating items were recovered.
All recovered exhibits have been documented as evidence, while police investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful and credible election. He warned that the police will not tolerate any form of cultism, armed violence, or political thuggery during the electoral process.
He also appealed to parents, community leaders, and youth groups to discourage young people from joining cult groups or engaging in election-related violence, assuring residents of heightened security deployments across all local government areas of the state.
