As part of ongoing strategic preparations ahead of the forthcoming Anambra Governorship Election scheduled for November 8, 2025, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, on October 22, 2025, visited the Nnewi Area Command to evaluate personnel readiness and strengthen community engagement for a peaceful electoral process.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the visit forms part of the Commissioner’s statewide tour aimed at assessing operational preparedness and ensuring effective security coverage before, during, and after the election.
During his address to officers under the Area Command, CP Orutugu urged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, vigilance, and impartiality in line with the Inspector-General of Police’s directives. He emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force must remain a neutral, law-abiding institution committed to safeguarding democracy and maintaining public trust throughout the electoral period.
In a separate interactive session with critical stakeholders, CP Orutugu reiterated the IGP’s stance on land-related disputes, urging residents to seek redress through competent courts rather than resorting to self-help. He also encouraged the people of Nnewi and its environs to actively consider careers within the Nigeria Police Force, noting that increased local participation enhances national representation and strengthens community security collaboration.
Stakeholders at the meeting commended the Commissioner of Police for his proactive leadership and the Command’s efforts in fostering peace and stability ahead of the election. They pledged their continued support for the Police and other security agencies to ensure credible, violence-free polls across the State.
In his remarks, the Area Commander, Nnewi, ACP Augustine Oyamiele, expressed gratitude to the Commissioner for the visit and assured him of the unwavering commitment of officers under his command to maintain professionalism and ensure a hitch-free electoral exercise.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Local Government Chairman, traditional rulers, Presidents-General of various communities, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and other key security stakeholders across Nnewi and its environs.
