The Anambra State Police Command on Wednesday decorated 89 newly promoted Inspectors with the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in a ceremony held at the Command Headquarters, Awka.
The event, attended by senior officers, families, and well-wishers, also featured the official induction of the officers into the Police Officers’ Mess, symbolizing their transition into the officer cadre of the Nigeria Police Force.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, DCP Mantu Chong, congratulated the officers, urging them to see the promotion as both a reward for their sacrifices and a call to higher responsibility.
He emphasized that leadership within the force demands professionalism, discipline, and commitment to safeguarding lives and property. “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, approved these promotions in recognition of your dedication and sacrifices. You must now justify the confidence reposed in you by ensuring effective service delivery and upholding the values of honesty, fairness, and accountability,” he said.
The newly promoted officers were also charged to be role models to their subordinates and strengthen collaborations with communities in the fight against crime and in sustaining peace across Anambra State.
Speaking on behalf of the promoted officers, ASP Oliji Alfred expressed gratitude to the Police Service Commission and Force Headquarters, pledging renewed dedication to duty and commitment to the responsibilities of their new rank.
The ceremony concluded with group photographs and the induction formalities into the Officers’ Mess, marking a new phase in the professional journey of the officers.
