The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has commended the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) for its landmark plan to award full scholarships to children of fallen heroes.
Egbetokun gave the commendation on Tuesday while receiving the President of DEPOWA, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, and members of the association during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Mrs. Musa explained that the initiative, themed “Thank You to Our Troops”, would take off with the commissioning of the DEPOWA Future Leaders Academy in September 2026. She noted that the scholarships would not only support children of fallen heroes but also promote national unity by admitting children from surrounding communities.
She also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General and lauded the sacrifices of police officers in combating violent crimes and contributing to international peacekeeping operations.
In his remarks, IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property, maintaining public order, and safeguarding democracy. He stressed that the NPF remains resolute in discharging its duties, drawing strength from the support of stakeholders like DEPOWA and other affiliate associations.
The visit underscored DEPOWA’s efforts to enhance the welfare of families of security personnel and strengthen the bond between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
