The Anambra State Police Command has foiled separate criminal operations, leading to the recovery of two suspected stolen vehicles in Awka and Oba within 24 hours.
The Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, said the patrols were part of ongoing measures to sustain safety across the state.
On September 4, 2025, police operatives attached to the Central Police Station, Awka, recovered a Lexus ES 350 with registration number *Lagos BDG 350 JR*. The vehicle had been snatched by four armed men operating in an unregistered tricycle. The suspects reportedly blocked their victim along Ifite Road, Amaenyi, forcing him to abandon his car before fleeing. Swift response and a coordinated chase by the operatives led to the recovery of the vehicle around Parkers Road, Awka, at about 10:10 p.m.
In another operation, police officers attached to Oba Division, in the early hours of September 5, recovered a black Lexus RX 300 Jeep with registration number *Anambra AWK 31 DU*. The vehicle was discovered abandoned by unidentified persons near Mummy Hotel, along the Owerri–Onitsha Expressway, Oba. It has since been towed to the station for safekeeping.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, commended residents for their timely and useful information, stressing that effective collaboration between the Police and the public remains a vital tool in combating crime.
“The Command appreciates the good people of Anambra for their support. Our patrols will remain proactive in ensuring criminals have no hiding place,” Ikenga said.
Police authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to track down the suspects behind both incidents.
