Nestlé Nigeria has rolled out new clear caps across its Pure Life bottled water range in a move aimed at improving recyclability and promoting sustainable packaging. The clear caps, which debuted on the brand’s 33cl bottles, are now featured on all bottle sizes except Nestlé Pure Life Protect.
By removing the traditional blue pigmentation, the clear caps make it easier for recycling facilities to sort and repurpose materials, supporting efforts to reduce plastic waste and advance a circular economy. The initiative reflects Nestlé Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.
Olutayo Olatunji, Business Executive Officer, Nestlé Waters, said the change goes beyond aesthetics and underscores the brand’s dedication to the planet. “At Nestlé Pure Life, caring for our consumers and for the planet has always been at the heart of what we do. We remain passionate about delivering safe, quality water while protecting our environment. The clear cap is a reflection of our deeper commitment to sustainability,” he said.
Olatunji added that Nestlé Pure Life was the first and only bottled water brand in Nigeria to introduce bottles made with 50 percent recycled PET (rPET), cutting virgin plastic use by half.
Victoria Uwadoka, Corporate Communications, Public Affairs and Sustainability Lead, Nestlé Nigeria, said the shift aligns with the company’s goal to design packaging with purpose. “At Nestlé, sustainability is not a buzzword; it is a responsibility. The clear cap represents a meaningful shift in how we approach design — creating packaging that serves consumers, supports recycling partners, and protects the planet,” she said.
The move supports Nestlé’s global ambition to make 100 percent of its packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025, while locally reinforcing its aim to deliver a sustainable hydration experience for Nigerian consumers.
