IGP Decorates Police Officers Of The Year, Pledges Better Welfare And Retirement Benefits

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has decorated Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Aliyu Shaba and Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Sentome Obi, winners of the Police Officer of the Year Award for 2023 and 2024 respectively, with their new ranks. The ceremony took place on Tuesday at the IGP Smart Conference Room, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The IGP said the promotion and decoration of the officers reaffirm the Force’s commitment to recognising and rewarding personnel who distinguish themselves through exceptional service to the nation. He reiterated the Force Management’s decision that any officer who wins the Police Officer of the Year Award, the IGP Commendation Award, or a category award in two consecutive years would be recommended to the Police Service Commission for accelerated promotion.

Egbetokun encouraged officers to aspire for excellence, noting that recognition and honour are available to all personnel who demonstrate hard work, professionalism, discipline, and dedication to duty.

In a related development, the IGP hosted senior officials of the National Pension Commission (PenCom) led by its Director-General, Ms. Omolola B. Oluworaran, and the Managing Director of NPF Pensions Limited, Mr. Kolade Morakinyo, for an interactive session at the Force Headquarters. The meeting, attended by senior officers from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and above, addressed critical concerns regarding retirement benefits for serving and retired personnel.

The IGP expressed optimism that ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of retired police officers would soon yield positive results. He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to enhanced welfare packages for both serving and retired officers, while pledging to maintain a police service that is professionally competent, service-driven, law-abiding, and people-friendly.
