The initiative, launched in April 2023, is a nationwide food intervention programme aimed at alleviating hunger and cushioning the impact of economic hardship on underserved populations. The bank says it has so far distributed more than 250,000 food packs to beneficiaries in over 300 communities across the country’s six geo-political zones.

Speaking during the distribution exercise in Ado-Ekiti, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications at Fidelity Bank, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, said the programme reflects the bank’s enduring commitment to tackling hunger and poverty in Nigeria.

“The Fidelity Food Bank is our way of responding to the rising levels of hunger in Nigeria. We have sustained this initiative for more than two years, and it remains a proactive and compassionate CSR effort. We are proud to extend our coverage to Ado-Ekiti to continue that mission,” Nwagboh said.

The gesture received commendations from stakeholders and beneficiaries. The Cathedral Administrator of Saint Patrick Catholic Cathedral, Reverend Father Benedict Bimbola Joseph, described the donation as a welcome development and urged other corporate bodies to emulate the bank’s example.

Similarly, Reverend Father Michael Domingo, one of the bank’s Food Bank partners, applauded the initiative, noting that Fidelity Bank had demonstrated wisdom and compassion in supporting government efforts to alleviate poverty at a time when hunger is a pressing national challenge.

Fidelity Bank has also extended similar support to other communities across the country, recently providing food relief to over 1,500 flood victims in Mokwa, Niger State, and more than 2,000 internally displaced persons affected by the Yelwata attacks in Benue State.

Ranked among Nigeria’s leading commercial banks, Fidelity Bank serves over 9.1 million customers through digital platforms, 255 business offices across the country, and its UK subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited. The bank has won multiple local and international awards, including recognition for digital transformation, MSME banking, and innovative financial services.
