The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has been honoured as the “Best Crime Fighter – Man of the Year 2025” by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory Council.
The prestigious award was presented on Monday, July 22, 2025, during the NUJ FCT Press Week Lecture and Awards Ceremony held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja. Themed “Journalism in a Changing World: Press Freedom, Media, Democracy and Society,” the event celebrated notable individuals and institutions that have contributed meaningfully to public service and societal development.
According to the NUJ FCT Council, CP Orutugu was recognized for his exceptional leadership, strategic crime-fighting initiatives, and dedication to community safety in Anambra State. Under his leadership, the state has witnessed remarkable achievements in combating violent crimes, dismantling criminal syndicates, and promoting community policing and inter-agency collaboration.
In its citation, the NUJ applauded CP Orutugu for his professionalism, transparency, and steadfast commitment to the rule of law, all of which have significantly restored public trust in the security architecture of the state.
Accepting the award, CP Orutugu dedicated the honour to the officers and men of the Anambra State Police Command, describing the recognition as a reflection of their collective hard work and sacrifice. He reaffirmed his resolve to continue prioritizing the safety and security of all residents and visitors in Anambra.
The award presentation was witnessed by high-ranking security officials including the Inspector General of Police (represented by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi), the Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 7 (represented by ACP Odugbesan O.), as well as other senior officers and stakeholders.
The Anambra State Police Command, in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, expressed appreciation to the NUJ FCT Council for the honour, and reiterated its commitment to excellence in policing and public service.
