On Friday, August 29, 2025, Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, the National President of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), alongside Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), the wife of the Kebbi State Governor, officially inaugurated the newly established COWA Secretariat in Kebbi State. The event took place at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Kebbi Area Command Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, marking a historic milestone for COWA’s activities in the region.
Following the inauguration, Mrs. Adeniyi and Hajiya Nafisa generously distributed relief materials, including food items and writing supplies, to several orphans and widows of deceased Customs officers. This act of kindness highlights COWA’s continued commitment to supporting vulnerable families within the Customs community and beyond.
In her speech, Mrs. Adeniyi extended her heartfelt appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his steadfast backing of COWA’s mission and goals. She also expressed gratitude to the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller CC Nwokorie, for his leadership and dedication, which contributed to the success of the event.
Hajiya Nafisa, in her remarks, warmly welcomed Mrs. Adeniyi to Kebbi and reaffirmed her support for orphans and widows, aligning with the state government’s ongoing social welfare initiatives. She also wished the visiting COWA delegation a safe journey back.
Comptroller Nwokorie, in his opening address, emphasized the importance of the occasion. He noted that since the creation of the Kebbi Area Command in 2019, following its split from the Sokoto/Kebbi/Zamfara Command, COWA had not previously operated in the state. He credited the success of the event to the strong leadership and support of the current Comptroller-General of Customs.
