Automotive Training Institute Commissioned At LASUSTECH, Facilitated By Hon. Dr. Dolapo Badru

“Minister, Gov. Sanwo-Olu Applaud Transformational Federal Intervention”

Ikorodu, Lagos State – A major milestone was achieved in Nigeria’s automotive sector on Monday, August 25, 2025, with the commissioning of a state-of-the-art Automotive Training Centre at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu. The project, facilitated by Hon. Dr. Enitan Dolapo Badru, was inaugurated by the Honourable Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Owan Enoh.

The Minister described the Centre as a strategic intervention that will empower local auto mechanics with modern skills, enhance capacity in the automotive industry, and significantly boost the Nigerian economy.

“This laudable project will not only enhance local automobile production but also align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to revive the automotive industry, foster technological transfer, and empower our youth,” said Sen. Enoh.

He further revealed that the training centre is projected to create over one million jobs for Nigerian youths, and announced that 21 more centres would be established across the country as part of a national strategy.

Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB), Mrs. Moronke Azeez, commended the initiative, noting its alignment with the state’s goals for human capital development and economic growth.

“The automotive industry is the bedrock of our economy. This Centre will accelerate innovation and skills development in Lagos. My administration will continue to support such impactful projects,” said Governor Sanwo-Olu.

Hon. Dr. Enitan Dolapo Badru, Member of the Federal House of Representatives (Lagos Island Federal Constituency I), represented by Dr. Usman Ibrahim, Clerk of the House Committee on Industry, highlighted the project’s goal of stimulating industrial advancement, creating employment, and promoting local content through skills acquisition in the auto sector.

The Director General/CEO of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Mr. Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, described the Centre as a hub designed to enable the maintenance and manufacture of Nigerian-made vehicles to international standards. He noted that it is equipped with computerised diagnostic systems and advanced tools to modernise mechanical fault detection and repair.
