
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has concluded a three-day operational visit to the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, covering various formations within its Area of Responsibility (AOR).

According to a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the COAS commissioned several major infrastructure projects initiated by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, and his team.

While at Port Harcourt Barracks, he inaugurated the 6 Division Office Complex Extension and the Python Harmony Centre. Additional projects executed by the 6 Division Garrison, led by Brigadier General S. Ahmed, were also commissioned. These include newly constructed 2 x 10-family Corporal and Below Quarters (CBQs), seven remodeled CBQs, a remodeled Cantonment Office, a new Petroleum Oil Lubricant (POL) Point, and improvements at the 29 Battalion including a remodeled Quarter Guard and 10 CBQs.

In Bayelsa State, the COAS commissioned the new 16 Brigade Annex Complex, constructed under the leadership of Brigadier General Oluremi Obolo.

He also inaugurated an electrification project by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), a newly built Garrison House by Lieutenant Colonel Sheriff Kaigama, and several renovated facilities including the 5 Battalion Quarter Guard, the Commanding Officer’s house at 343 Artillery Regiment, and a newly installed power transformer.

A groundbreaking ceremony was also held for the construction of 20 units of two-bedroom flats for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers at Elele Barracks.

The COAS further inspected the fully renovated Medical Reception Station at Wellington Barracks, Ibagwa, in Akwa Ibom State.

As part of his visit, General Oluyede paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, at the Government House, Uyo.

He expressed appreciation for the state’s continued support to the Army, noting it has contributed significantly to the peace and stability enjoyed in the region.

Governor Eno commended the Nigerian Army for its dedication to peace and security, highlighting the effective civil-military cooperation with 2 Brigade, led by Brigadier General Alex Tawasimi. He pledged continued collaboration with the Army to sustain peace and development.

The COAS also addressed troops at the 29 Battalion Parade Ground in Port Harcourt and the 6 Battalion Parade Ground in Ibagwa, Akwa Ibom.

He praised their commitment and effectiveness in combating oil theft and pipeline vandalism, reaffirming his commitment to troop welfare under his “Soldier First” initiative.
