The Anambra State Police Command on Friday, August 1, 2025, swiftly intervened to restore calm following a political clash during a campaign rally in Nri, Anaocha Local Government Area.
The disturbance reportedly began around 1:30 p.m. when supporters of a political party allegedly pulled down three campaign billboards belonging to a rival party, sparking brief tensions in the area.
Police immediately invited both parties for a peace meeting aimed at de-escalating the situation. An agreement was reached for the billboards to be replaced promptly, despite claims that the removal was linked to non-payment of signage fees.
Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu urged political actors and their supporters to conduct campaigns peacefully and in accordance with the law. He directed that the matter be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Political Desk for further investigation, either to uphold the agreement reached or to carry out a more discreet inquiry if necessary.
