In a bid to strengthen community security and enhance collaboration with local law enforcement, the Anambra State Police Command has announced the commencement of a training and reorientation programme for vigilante operatives across the state.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the exercise officially began on Tuesday, July 9, 2025, with the documentation and medical screening of vigilante personnel.
The training is designed to enhance the operatives’ understanding of modern security protocols, human rights, and community policing strategies. It also aims to promote synergy between vigilante groups, the Nigeria Police, and other security agencies operating within the state.
SP Ikenga noted that the programme will include lectures on ethics and professionalism, inter-agency cooperation, crime scene management, adherence to the rule of law, and proper handling of exhibits.
“The ongoing documentation process will help ensure accountability, improve the organizational structure of the vigilante groups, and streamline their operations,” Ikenga stated.
The initiative, he added, reflects the joint commitment of the Police Command and the Anambra State Government to advancing a community-led approach to safety and security.
The Police Command assured that further updates would be provided as the training progresses.
