Zone 2 Police Raid Uncovers Adulterated Alcohol Production Complex, Couple Arrested, Facility Shut Down

In a significant operation, the Zone 2 Police Command, under the leadership of Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Olatoye A. Durosinmi, Bsc, LLB, BL, LLM, has successfully apprehended a couple involved in the production and distribution of various adulterated alcoholic beverages.

The crackdown unfolded on April 4, 2024, when a team of detectives from the Zone 2 Raider Section, led by CSP Ngozi Braide, conducted a raid on a residence located in Muibi Olawumi Close, Off Ayetoto/Itẹle Road, Ado-Odo/Ota LGA, Ogun State. Acting on actionable intelligence, the officers uncovered an illicit operation engaged in the manufacturing of counterfeit wines, liquor, champagne, and other alcoholic drinks.

The raid yielded a trove of incriminating evidence, including unlabelled and branded bottles of suspected adulterated alcoholic drinks, various containers filled with mixtures believed to be ingredients for the adulterated beverages, as well as equipment used in the production process such as pumping machines, funnels, and sealing machines. Additionally, brand labels of Del-Mud, Del-Mud Royal, Smooth Brandy Wine Drinks in packs, a funnel containing a white handkerchief (used as a filter), and corkscrews among other production and branding items were seized.

At the scene, one Margret Austine ‘f’ was apprehended and confessed to a six-year involvement in the illegal operation alongside her husband, Austine Idemudia (a.k.a. “Baba Joshua”). Margret ‘f’ further disclosed that their adulterated finished products were sold to buyers across Lagos and Ogun States.

The Zone 2 Command is actively investigating the case and pledges to provide further updates to the general public as the investigation progresses.

In response to this incident, Assistant Inspector-General Durosinmi urges the public to exercise vigilance when purchasing food and beverages, emphasizing the serious health risks posed by adulterated products.
