A Plateau-based civic group, Vanguard for the Voice of Reasoning, has criticised former Labour Party governorship candidate Chief Yohanna Margif for what it described as “false and self-serving” allegations against Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.
Margif had accused the governor of remaining silent over recent attacks in Mushere communities of Bokkos Local Government Area. But in a statement signed by its chairman, James Buba, the group said Margif had “abandoned his people for years” and failed to visit or commiserate with them following repeated assaults by armed herders.
According to the group, Governor Mutfwang visited Mushere and other affected communities on June 22, 2025, delivering relief materials and pledging the completion of a strategic bridge linking Mushere to neighbouring areas. It also noted that the governor recently sent a high-powered delegation led by House Speaker Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel Gapyil to ensure the bridge’s swift completion.
Buba accused Margif of “living comfortably in Abuja” while ignoring his people’s suffering, adding: “If there is any governor Plateau State has produced who has stood firmly with his people, it is Governor Mutfwang.”
While expressing sympathy for victims of the violence, the group urged Mushere residents to remain resilient and called on security agencies to step up protection of lives and property.
