The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has ordered an investigation into an allegation that a complainant was asked to pay N450,000 for “mobilisation and petition” while seeking to lodge a matter for investigation at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department.
The allegation was made in a video circulating on social media by a content creator identified as Tumma Gabriel. The Command said it was aware of the video and strongly condemned any act of soliciting or demanding money from members of the public in connection with police investigations.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, ordered a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegation and identify any officer who may have been involved.
The Command said any officer found culpable would face disciplinary action in line with the provisions of the Police Act and Regulations. It also urged the complainant to contact the Command on 08180382808 and visit its headquarters to provide information that could assist the investigation.
The FCT Police Command reiterated that officers are not authorised to solicit or demand payment before, during or after investigations, urging members of the public with relevant information about the allegation to cooperate with the ongoing probe.
