Zone 2 Police Command Holds Refresher Training on Use of Force, Human Rights, Crime Prevention

The Zone 2 Command Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Adegoke M. Fayoade, on Wednesday, conducted a refresher training for its personnel focused on the appropriate use of force and the discharge of statutory police duties.

The training, held at the M.D. Abubakar Conference Hall in Onikan, Lagos, was facilitated by retired AIG Adeoye Adeniran Oluwafimihan, and formed part of ongoing efforts to equip officers with modern policing knowledge and revive core operational skills.

The session addressed key areas such as the primary duties of police officers as protectors of human rights, effective crime prevention techniques, the lawful application of both armed and unarmed force, and the principles of legality, proportionality, necessity, and accountability in police operations. Officers were also trained on the proper justification for the use of firearms, as well as best practices in investigation and report writing.

According to the command, the refresher course is essential to updating the professional capacity of officers in line with global policing standards and addressing skill gaps caused by outdated or neglected procedures.

AIG Fayoade expressed deep appreciation to the facilitator, AIG Oluwafimihan (Rtd), for his contribution to the training and urged officers to adopt modern practices that will improve their performance and uphold public trust in law enforcement.

The training is part of a broader initiative by the Zone 2 Command to enhance professionalism and ensure that police personnel discharge their duties responsibly and with respect for human rights.
