The Ogun State Police Command has arraigned five suspects before the Ota Magistrate Court over the alleged assault and obstruction of police officers carrying out their lawful duties in the Bells area of Iyana Iyesi, Ota.
The incident reportedly occurred on October 2, 2026, when a police patrol team intercepted and arrested a suspect allegedly found with a large quantity of substances suspected to be Indian hemp. The officers were said to have come under attack while conveying the handcuffed suspect to the station, with the assailants allegedly using cutlasses, stones and bottles. The attack reportedly left some officers injured, damaged the police operational vehicle and enabled the suspect to escape.
Following intelligence led operations, the Command arrested five suspects identified as Morenikeji Badmus, 36; Adedoja Segun, 40; Jeremiah Odise Ugbede Onride, 49; Mike Stephen, 28; and David Odeh, 32. They were arraigned on charges bordering on conspiracy, serious assault on police officers, obstruction of lawful duty and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, urged members of the public to refrain from confronting police officers or other law enforcement personnel carrying out legitimate duties. He advised anyone with grievances against security personnel to seek redress through established legal and administrative channels.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting police personnel and maintaining public safety, while efforts continue to apprehend other suspects allegedly connected with the incident.
