The Chief of Personnel Management (Army), Major General Adewale Adekeye, has charged candidates participating in the 2026 Master Warrant Officer to Army Warrant Officer promotion exercise to uphold the highest standards of discipline, professionalism and integrity.
Adekeye gave the charge on Tuesday at the Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State, during the inauguration of the promotion board exercise organised to select qualified personnel for advancement to the rank of Army Warrant Officer.
He said the exercise was designed to identify the most deserving personnel for promotion, describing the rank of Army Warrant Officer as the pinnacle of career progression for enlisted soldiers in the Nigerian Army.
According to him, more than 500 candidates are participating in the exercise, which will provide an opportunity to assess their suitability, competence and readiness to serve at the next level of their military careers.
Adekeye urged the candidates to remain disciplined and professional throughout the exercise, while charging members of the promotion board to conduct the assessment with fairness, firmness, impartiality and professionalism.
He said, “My charge is to be professional and disciplined on the part of the candidates, and on the part of the board members, to be fair, firm, professional and dispassionate. Do not favour anybody, but grant everybody an equal playing field so that the best can emerge.”
The Chief of Personnel Management added that candidates would undergo comprehensive medical examinations as part of the assessment process to determine their mental and physical fitness. He commended them for their resilience, dedication and loyal service to the Nigerian Army and the nation.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding, 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, welcomed the candidates and assured them of the Division’s commitment to providing the necessary facilities for a successful exercise. He said the Division had made extensive preparations to ensure their comfort and commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for his guidance towards a hitch free exercise.
The promotion board, hosted by 81 Division, Nigerian Army, is being held at 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala Barracks, Abeokuta, and is scheduled to run from October 5 to 18, 2026. Adekeye also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for approving the exercise.
