The Ogun State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its sustained campaign against criminal activities with the arrest of two suspected cattle thieves, the recovery of six stolen cows and the rescue of a suspected kidnap victim during separate operations across the state.

The successes, achieved by operatives of the Sagamu Division and the Command’s Safer Highway Patrol Team, reinforce the Command’s renewed commitment to intelligence driven policing, rapid response operations and proactive crime prevention.

In the first operation, detectives attached to the Sagamu Division dismantled a suspected cattle theft syndicate with the arrest of Abiodun Kamilu, 35, and Adesanya Segun, 37, following a coordinated operation in Sagamu.

Police also recovered six cows allegedly stolen by the suspects and seized a blue Nissan Cabstar bus believed to have been used by the syndicate to transport the animals.

The operation followed a distress call received in the early hours of July 25, 2026, reporting that suspected cattle rustlers had invaded a cow yard in the Maskoli area of Sagamu and made away with seven cows.

Responding swiftly, police operatives launched coordinated patrols across strategic exit routes while intensifying surveillance based on credible intelligence gathered from the area.

The operation paid off when officers intercepted suspicious vehicles along the Sagamu Ijebu Ode Expressway, disrupting the suspects’ escape and forcing them to abandon part of their loot.

The two suspects were arrested at the scene, while six of the seven stolen cows and the operational vehicle were successfully recovered.

Police said investigations have been expanded to track down other members of the criminal syndicate, recover the remaining stolen cow and ensure that everyone connected with the crime is brought to justice.

In another operation, the Command’s Safer Highway Patrol Team frustrated a suspected kidnap attempt on July 26, 2026, at about 7.10 pm around the Onigaari axis of the Lagos Ibadan Expressway.

The patrol team, while conducting routine confidence building operations, responded immediately after hearing gunshots from the area and swiftly moved to the scene.

The rapid deployment and tactical response forced the armed suspects to abandon their mission and flee into a nearby bush before they could execute the planned abduction.

The intended victim was rescued unharmed and escorted alongside his vehicle to the Ogunmakin Police Post for safety and necessary police procedures, while calm was restored in the area.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism, courage and vigilance displayed by the officers involved, describing the successful operations as evidence of the Command’s enhanced operational capability and readiness to tackle criminal activities across the state.

He assured residents that the Command remains committed to strengthening intelligence gathering, strategic patrols, visibility policing and coordinated tactical operations to sustain peace and security. The Commissioner also urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with credible and timely information, assuring them that every actionable report would receive prompt attention.
