Nigerian Navy Charges Newly Trained Ratings To Boost Maritime Security, Professional Excellence

The Nigerian Navy has charged newly graduated ratings to apply the skills acquired during their training to strengthen maritime security operations and uphold the highest standards of professionalism in service to the nation.

This charge was delivered by the Flag Officer Commanding, Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC), Rear Admiral Ebiobowei Abraham Zipele, at the 11th Combined Ratings Graduation Ceremony held at the IMION Auditorium of NNS QUORRA, Apapa, Lagos.

Rear Admiral Zipele, who was represented by the Chief Staff Officer, NAVTRAC, Rear Admiral Victor Choji, described the graduation ceremony as a significant milestone in the careers of the sailors and commended them for successfully completing their respective courses.

He noted that the rigorous training undertaken at NNS QUORRA had equipped the graduands with the professional knowledge, technical competence and operational skills required to effectively discharge their duties across ships, units and naval establishments.

The senior naval officer urged the graduates to demonstrate discipline, professionalism and commitment as they return to their various assignments, stressing that their conduct would directly impact operational effectiveness and the reputation of the Nigerian Navy.

According to him, the maritime domain remains a critical driver of global commerce, economic prosperity and national security, making it imperative for Nigeria to maintain a capable and professional naval force to safeguard its maritime interests.

He reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to protecting the nation’s maritime environment and resources, noting that continuous investment in human capacity development remains central to achieving operational success.

Rear Admiral Zipele observed that evolving security threats have compelled the Navy to modernise its capabilities and expand operational readiness, adding that well trained personnel remain the most valuable component of military strength.

He explained that the courses conducted at NNS QUORRA were carefully structured to develop competencies that align with the operational objectives of the Nigerian Navy and prepare personnel for current and future missions.

The FOC NAVTRAC also commended NNS QUORRA for securing certification of its courses by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, describing the achievement as a major step toward enhancing the global recognition and credibility of naval training in Nigeria.

He expressed appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, for his sustained support for training, professional development and human capacity building within the service.

Speaking early in his welcome address, the Commandant of NNS QUORRA, Commodore Mohammed Hassan, congratulated the graduands for their resilience, discipline and determination, noting that not every trainee who commenced the courses completed them successfully.

The Commandant reminded the graduates that the Nigerian Navy would expect improved performance and greater professionalism from them, given the knowledge and expertise acquired during their training.

Commodore Hassan acknowledged challenges relating to accommodation, training facilities and infrastructure within the institution, but disclosed that Naval Headquarters had already initiated measures to address the identified deficiencies and improve the training environment.

Speaking on behalf of the graduating ratings, MWOASWI Acha Ed expressed gratitude to the Commandant, instructors, families and invited guests for their support throughout the training period. He said the graduates were leaving NNS QUORRA better prepared, more competent and united in their commitment to serve the nation, pledging to uphold the values of discipline, professionalism and excellence in their future assignments.
