The Ogun State Police Command has recorded fresh operational successes in its ongoing campaign against crime, with the arrest of a suspected cult leader, the disruption of a planned initiation exercise, the recovery of stolen property, and the prevention of mob justice in separate operations across the state.
The achievements, according to the Command, underscore its commitment to intelligence-driven policing and proactive security measures aimed at safeguarding lives and property in Ogun State.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the operations were successfully carried out by personnel attached to the Mowe, Ago-Iwoye and Warewa Divisions through coordinated intelligence gathering and rapid tactical deployment.
The Command disclosed that the breakthroughs resulted in the arrest of three suspects linked to cultism, armed robbery and receiving stolen property, while several exhibits were recovered during the operations.
At Mowe Division, operatives arrested a 26-year-old suspect identified as a key figure and alleged leader of the Eiye Confraternity operating within the Mowe axis.
The arrest followed credible intelligence indicating that the cult group was planning an initiation programme intended to recruit new members and strengthen its activities within the community.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, police operatives intensified surveillance around identified locations and successfully disrupted the planned initiation before it could take place.
Investigators said the suspect reportedly admitted his involvement in cult-related activities and acknowledged occupying a leadership position within the group during preliminary interrogation.
The suspect has since been transferred to the appropriate investigative unit for further profiling, prosecution and efforts to uncover other members of the criminal network.
In a separate operation, operatives of Ago-Iwoye Division foiled the activities of suspected motorcycle robbers and prevented an attempted mob action against one of the suspects.
The incident occurred along the Ita-Merin area of Ago-Iwoye where a commercial motorcyclist was allegedly attacked by two passengers he had conveyed to their destination.
Police investigations revealed that the assailants allegedly used a hammer to inflict injuries on the rider before making away with his motorcycle.
Following a distress call, local residents mobilised and succeeded in apprehending one of the suspects, while the second suspect escaped from the scene.
Police officers who arrived promptly restored calm and prevented residents from taking the law into their own hands, thereby averting a possible breakdown of public order.
The stolen motorcycle was recovered, while the hammer allegedly used during the attack was also recovered and retained as evidence.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects may belong to a criminal group known for targeting commercial motorcyclists along isolated routes, using violent methods to dispossess victims of their motorcycles.
Investigators further linked the arrested suspect to similar incidents previously reported within the area, raising concerns about the existence of a wider robbery syndicate operating in the axis.
Meanwhile, detectives attached to Warewa Division recorded another breakthrough with the arrest of a suspect allegedly involved in the diversion and unlawful sale of a 10KVA generator valued at about ₦650,000.
The owner of the generator had reported that the equipment, which was rented out for legitimate business purposes, was fraudulently diverted and sold at the suspiciously low sum of ₦15,000.
Acting on intelligence, police detectives traced the suspect to Kara-Isheri, where he was allegedly found dismantling the generator into parts in a bid to conceal the crime and dispose of the exhibits.
Several components of the generator were recovered during the operation, while investigations suggest the suspect may be linked to other cases involving rented equipment and fraudulent disposal schemes.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved for their professionalism, vigilance and prompt response in the various operations.
He reiterated the Command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-led policing, strengthen community partnerships and maintain relentless pressure on criminal elements across Ogun State.
Ojajuni assured residents that the Command would continue to deploy all lawful resources necessary to ensure public safety, stressing that Ogun State remains hostile territory for criminals and their collaborators.
The police leadership also urged members of the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information capable of preventing crime and facilitating swift arrests.
Residents were advised to make use of the Command’s emergency communication channels whenever they observe suspicious activities or require urgent police intervention.
