Operatives of the Obantoko Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected members of a notorious one chance robbery syndicate accused of terrorising residents around Obantoko and adjoining communities in Abeokuta.
The suspects, identified as Odunuga Kehinde and Olajide Rasak, were apprehended after a rapid police response to a distress call linked to the robbery of three female victims along the OLG Somorin axis.
Police authorities disclosed that the incident occurred on May 28, 2026, at about 5:15 p.m. after the victims boarded a Nissan Micra taxi from the Somorin area heading toward NNPC Kuto.
According to preliminary investigations, the occupants of the vehicle allegedly diverted from the agreed route shortly after the journey commenced and violently dispossessed the passengers of their valuables before throwing them out of the vehicle.
The victims immediately raised an alarm after discovering that an iPhone 12 Pro and other personal belongings had been stolen during the attack.
Acting on the distress report, detectives attached to the Obantoko Division, working alongside vigilant residents, swiftly mobilised to the scene and intercepted two of the suspected robbers, while the vehicle used for the operation reportedly escaped.
Police sources revealed that the timely intervention of officers prevented an angry mob from attacking the suspects, as tension rose among residents gathered at the scene.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the robbery operation, while officers recovered the stolen iPhone 12 Pro alongside other mobile phones suspected to have been stolen from previous victims.
The police confirmed that the recovered iPhone 12 Pro has been released to its owner after due documentation and bond procedures, while the suspects remain in custody pending the conclusion of investigations and prosecution.
Commending the officers and residents for their swift collaboration, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence driven policing and proactive crime prevention across the state.
The Command also urged residents to remain security conscious and promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities through its emergency response channels.
