The Ogun State Police Command has intensified security operations across parts of Ijebu Ode following the environmental incident recorded along the Agoro Okunowa Road corridor, with Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, leading a fresh on site assessment of affected communities and schools.
The police chief on Saturday visited several impacted locations, including Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, as part of efforts to evaluate the situation and reassure anxious residents over safety concerns in the area.
The assessment exercise was conducted alongside the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Muritala Bolanle, the Officer in Charge of the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, and other emergency management stakeholders coordinating response efforts.
According to the Ogun State Police Command, the follow up operation became necessary to strengthen emergency response measures and prevent panic among residents, students and school authorities within the affected axis.
During the inspection, CP Ojajuni ordered the immediate deployment of additional Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel, surveillance teams, tactical operatives and officers of the School Protection Squad to reinforce security around schools and vulnerable communities.
The security reinforcement was carried out in collaboration with officials of the Ogun State Ministries of Education, Environment and Health, who joined the sensitisation campaign aimed at educating residents on emergency safety procedures.
Community leaders, teachers, parents and students were also engaged during the awareness session, where authorities outlined precautionary measures and response steps expected during emergencies linked to the incident.
Addressing stakeholders during the exercise, the police commissioner urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, stressing the need for strict compliance with all emergency protocols issued by security and health authorities.
Residents were advised to immediately seek help during emergencies, assist affected persons experiencing breathing difficulties with wet clothes where necessary and ensure victims are rushed to the nearest hospital for urgent medical attention.
The Ogun State Police Command maintained that the situation remains under control, assuring residents that monitoring, surveillance and coordinated response operations have been intensified across the affected communities in Ijebu Ode.
