The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping after operatives neutralised two suspected kidnappers and arrested an alleged gang kingpin during a coordinated intelligence driven operation in the state.
The operation, carried out by the Anti Kidnapping Unit of the command, also led to the recovery of an AK 47 rifle loaded with ten rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, a single barrel gun, live ammunition, mobile phones, a black bag and ₦1.5 million suspected to be ransom proceeds.
Police authorities identified the arrested suspects as Seriki Mohammed Abdullahi and Mohammed Bello, both believed to be key members of a kidnapping syndicate linked to recent abduction cases in Ogun State.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the operation followed sustained intelligence gathering after three persons were kidnapped on May 11, 2026, at Ipojo Area, Iperin, Atan Ijebu.
The victims were reportedly released unharmed on May 14 after their abductors collected an undisclosed ransom, prompting security operatives to intensify efforts to dismantle the criminal network behind the attack.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives stormed the kidnappers’ hideout along the Ijebu Ode Ibadan Road axis at about 5am on May 15 in a tactical raid aimed at apprehending the suspects.
Police sources disclosed that the suspects opened fire immediately they sighted the operatives, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire that ended with two members of the gang being fatally wounded while others escaped into nearby forests with gunshot injuries.
The command said follow up intelligence operations later resulted in the arrest of the suspected kingpin and another gang member, alongside the recovery of further incriminating exhibits connected to the kidnapping operation.
The bodies of the neutralised suspects have been deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while detectives continue investigations to uncover the full structure of the syndicate and track down fleeing members of the gang.
Commending the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s determination to sustain aggressive operations against kidnapping and violent crimes across Ogun State, while urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency channels.
