Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against violent crime with the arrest of three suspected armed robbers and the recovery of stolen vehicles and a firearm.
The suspects, identified as Hammed Olarewaju, Adedokun Ayinde and Adedokun Adewusi, were apprehended by detectives attached to the Anti Robbery Squad following a coordinated intelligence driven operation across multiple locations.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the arrests were triggered by a series of reports bordering on vehicle theft, prompting a discreet but sustained investigation by the Command.
The operation first led to the arrest of Olarewaju, who was found with a suspicious vehicle registration number, raising red flags that exposed a wider criminal network.
Further investigation resulted in the arrest of Ayinde, believed to be the leader of the syndicate, with detectives tightening the net around the group’s activities within and beyond Ogun State.
During the raid, operatives recovered a Toyota Sienna earlier reported stolen as well as a fabricated pistol suspected to have been used in carrying out the group’s operations.
In a related development, police recovered a stolen Toyota Corolla originally taken from Ilaro, which was traced to Ibadan, Oyo State, where one Arowolo Taoreed was found in possession of the vehicle.
The crackdown also led to the arrest of Adewusi in connection with another robbery case, with further intelligence linking him to the recovery of a 2017 Lexus RX 350 F Sport vehicle stolen and later traced to Abuja.
Investigators disclosed that a pistol recovered in Ajah, Lagos State, is connected to the same criminal network, reinforcing suspicions of a coordinated interstate syndicate specialising in car theft and armed robbery.
Commending the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks and urged residents to remain vigilant and support law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities as efforts continue to apprehend fleeing members of the gang.
