The Lagos State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has again secured national prominence, emerging as the Best Performing Sector Command in Nigeria following the Corps’ 2025 Annual Performance Assessment.
In a parallel recognition, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat, was decorated with the prestigious Corps Marshal’s Merit Award, affirming his leadership impact and operational command excellence.
The twin honours, conveyed in an official statement by the RS2.1 Lagos Sector Public Education Office, signal a sustained run of dominance by the Lagos Command within the national framework of the Corps.
This latest ranking marks a consecutive national triumph, reinforcing the Command’s consistency in performance and its entrenched culture of discipline, efficiency and institutional accountability.
Since assuming office in October 2024, Hamzat has driven a reform-focused leadership style that has recalibrated operational structures and enhanced service delivery across the Command.
Under his watch, the Lagos Command has recorded measurable gains in enforcement, public enlightenment campaigns, traffic coordination and stakeholder engagement across the state.
A defining intervention was the rollout of the Joint Night Operations on Total War Against Overloading in August 2025, a targeted enforcement strategy designed to curb the menace of overloaded vehicles on Lagos roads.
The initiative has strengthened compliance among commercial transport operators and contributed to safer road use, particularly along high-risk corridors within the metropolis.
Beyond enforcement, the Command has deepened collaboration with critical actors in the transport ecosystem, widening support for road safety advocacy and regulatory compliance.
Internally, a strict disciplinary regime has been maintained, with erring personnel sanctioned in line with established procedures, reinforcing professionalism and operational integrity.
The Corps Marshal’s Merit Award, regarded as one of the highest honours within the FRSC, is reserved for Commanders and formations that demonstrate exceptional leadership and measurable impact.
For Lagos, the dual recognition underscores a performance-driven culture anchored on teamwork, resilience and strategic direction.
Hamzat attributed the achievement to the collective dedication of officers and men of the Command, noting that the recognition reflects shared commitment rather than individual accomplishment.
He commended personnel for their discipline and resilience, urging them to sustain the momentum and consolidate on existing gains.
Reaffirming the Command’s resolve, the Sector Commander assured Lagos residents and the motoring public of intensified enforcement, improved traffic management and responsive service delivery, while also expressing appreciation to the Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, and the management team for their continued support and guidance.
