Ojajuni Moves To Reset Crime Fighting As New Violent Crime Unit Commander Emerges In Ogun

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, has taken a decisive step to strengthen operational effectiveness with the appointment of a new Commander for the Violent Crime Response Unit.

The move, which aligns with the reform agenda of the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, signals a renewed push to tackle violent crimes through a more coordinated and intelligence driven policing strategy.

At the centre of the restructuring is the appointment of Daramola Sunday Thompson, a seasoned officer with a track record in tactical and investigative operations, to lead the specialised unit.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Oluseyi B Babaseyi, who noted that the reform is aimed at streamlining tactical units for greater efficiency and accountability.

The newly strengthened unit is expected to serve as a unified operational platform dedicated to combating violent crimes, including armed robbery, cultism and other organised threats across the state.

Ojajuni emphasised that the initiative reflects a broader effort to reposition the command with modern policing tools anchored on intelligence gathering, rapid response and professional conduct.

The appointment followed a rigorous screening process that also ushered in an orientation programme for selected personnel, with the command leadership providing strategic direction to align with national policing reforms.

Thompson brings to the role a wealth of experience, having served in key operational positions including anti cultism, anti fraud and anti car theft units across multiple state commands.

He also previously held leadership responsibilities as a Divisional Police Officer, further reinforcing confidence in his capacity to drive the unit’s mandate effectively.

Charging the new commander, the police boss urged strict adherence to professionalism, discipline and integrity, while insisting on swift and lawful responses to criminal threats in line with the Inspector General’s reform vision.
