The drive to deepen Nigeria’s maritime potential is set to gather pace as the International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION) rolls out a three day executive programme focused on the nation’s evolving Blue Economy policy framework.
Scheduled to run from April 15 to April 17, 2026, the intensive course will commence daily at 9am at the IMION Auditorium located within the Nigerian Navy Ship Quorra in Apapa, Lagos, drawing key actors from across government, industry and academia.
The programme is designed as a strategic knowledge platform to bridge policy gaps and equip participants with actionable insights needed to navigate Nigeria’s growing Blue Economy space amid shifting global dynamics.
Leading the faculty are renowned experts including Professor Comfort Etok, maritime law authority Barrister Mfon Ekong Usoro, and Senior Advocate of Nigeria Funke Agbor, each bringing deep sectoral experience to the sessions.
Participants will be exposed to a rich curriculum beginning with a foundational introduction to the Blue Economy, before advancing into Nigeria’s policy landscape and the identification of high value strategic sectors and emerging opportunities.
The course will further interrogate prevailing policy challenges while offering practical perspectives on sustainability and governance, two pillars widely regarded as critical to long term maritime sector growth.
A defining feature of the programme is its capstone module which will require attendees to develop a strategic policy implementation brief, aligning theory with real world execution demands.
Organisers say the training is tailored for a broad spectrum of stakeholders including government officials and policymakers, civil society advocates, maritime and logistics operators, as well as players in tourism, fisheries and aquaculture.
Academics, community leaders, entrepreneurs and development partners are also expected to benefit from the programme’s interdisciplinary approach and emphasis on collaborative policy shaping.
Participation is priced at ₦150,000 for physical attendance and ₦100,000 for virtual access, with payments to be made to the International Maritime Institute of Nigeria via UBA, while registration has been streamlined through an online portal to ensure seamless enrolment.
