
The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has commended Bola Ahmed Tinubu for strengthening the firepower and operational capability of the Nigerian Army through the provision of sophisticated weapons and critical military equipment to confront emerging security threats across the country.
Governor Alia gave the commendation on Thursday while receiving the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Makurdi.
The governor described the federal government’s renewed investment in modern military hardware as a decisive step towards strengthening national security architecture and enhancing the capacity of troops deployed in troubled regions.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, the Army Chief assured the state government that the Nigerian Army is steadily reinforcing its operational capacity to deliver improved security outcomes across Benue and other parts of the federation.
According to him, the acquisition of advanced weapons systems and combat enablers, facilitated by the support of President Tinubu, will significantly enhance the operational effectiveness of troops engaged in countering insecurity.
General Shaibu also commended the government and people of Benue State for their resilience and unwavering support to security agencies despite the persistent threats facing parts of the state.
He particularly appreciated the cooperation extended to troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE, noting that the synergy between the military and local communities has contributed to the progress recorded in ongoing security operations.
The Army Chief further urged the state government and residents to sustain close collaboration with the military and other security agencies, stressing that effective partnership remains crucial to restoring lasting peace and stability.
Responding, Governor Alia described the visit of the Army Chief as both timely and reassuring, especially at a moment when intensified efforts are required to consolidate security gains across the state.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s continued support for the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, while welcoming the deployment of additional troops to reinforce ongoing operations aimed at curbing criminality and restoring enduring peace in Benue State.
