Frontline maritime media outfit, Platforms Communications, has inaugurated a 12-member Central Planning Committee (CPC) to oversee preparations for the 10th anniversary edition of its flagship youth advocacy initiative, A Day With Nigerian Maritime Students (AMSAY), also known as the Annual Maritime Students and Youth Conference.
In a press statement issued on Monday, the Convener of the Conference and Chief Executive of Platforms Communications, Mr Sylva Obasi revealed that the 2026 edition of the program marks the 10th Anniversary of the youth advocacy initiative which was birthed precisely on May 27, 2016.
According to Obasi, the 10th Anniversary would be chaired by the pioneer Planning Committee Chairman, Mr Nnamdi Eronini and assisted by a youth advocacy enthusiast, Mr Mohammed Ahmed, while the 2019 BEGMASA reciepient and beneficiary, Wilfred Umahi would be the Secretary, even as Chief Basil Opara would play the role of Advisor to the committee.
Other members of the committee include, Mr Sunday Bankole, Mr David Oladimeji, Mrs Asella Offorka; Mr Isaac Utibe, Comr Temitope Omotayo, Emmanuel Adegbaju, Amb Winnie Ogunsakin and Mrs Pearl Ngwamah.
Speaking on the committee’s terms of reference, Obasi hinted that they would handle the overall planning and execution of the program from start to finish.
He further disclosed that in order to ensure efficiency through division of labour, the committee members have been drafted into sub-committees according to their areas of strengths. The sub-committees include: Technical, Business & Marketing, School Engagement, Publicity & Operations as well as the Welfare Committee.
According to the Convener, while the Technical sub-committee is saddled with the responsibilities of planning all technical aspects of the conference such as choosing of theme, topics of discourse, venue, speakers and other resource persons; the Business & Marketing sub-committee would reach out to prospective sponsors, partners and supporters; even as the Schools Engagement sub-committee would handle invitation and follow up engagements with all maritime schools and students for participation.
Meanwhile, the Publicity & Operations sub-committee will handle all promotional messages of the program to ensure good publicity, whereas the Welfare sub-committee would ensure smooth participants’ experience by taking good care of all attendees.
Speaking further, Obasi noted that the 10th Anniversary of AMSAY Conference will be a day to celebrate leadership, innovation and impact, the 3 ideals which the AMSAY Conference brand embodies since the last 10 years!
The frontline maritime journalist added that the Nnamdi Eronini-led committee is expected to use 4 months to plan and execute a successful outing come May 27, 2026.
He also urged government agencies, corporate companies, organisations and good spirited individuals to identify with the brand by way of sponsorship, partnership and support in order to ensure the program sustainability.
